I saw a girl wearing a t-shirt with an inspirational message today. It said, “The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is essential.” (Or something like that.) It got me thinking about my race tomorrow. My first-ever 15K. I shouldn’t be daunted; after all, I’ve run two half marathons, but for some reason this one is making me nervous. And I think it goes back to that quote.
See, I’ve only run 3 “real” races since high school, and two of them were half marathons that I really trained for. The other was a 5K that I didn’t train for at all. My hope in registering for tomorrow’s race was that it would help keep me motivated through the heat of a Texas summer between the Patriot Half Marathon in May and the Disney Tower of Terror 10-miler in October.
But…. life got in the way again. Between the end of the school year, 10 days out of town on our family vacation (I swear I took my running stuff, it just never made it out of my suitcase) and then an unscheduled trip when my husband’s grandmother died, I haven’t really gotten out to run much since May. I’ve managed about 12 miles this week, but nothing longer than 4 miles.
Oh well. The race is at 7:30 in the morning. Ready or not, here I come.
(my “flat mama” for tomorrow’s race)
